Scalabrini Aged Care Community Celebrates Permanent Residency Milestone for Over 70 Migrant Staff
On Saturday 5th April, Scalabrini Communities hosted a heartwarming afternoon tea event to celebrate a life-changing milestone for more than 70 of its valued team members who have officially become permanent residents of Australia.
This powerful achievement is the result of Scalabrini’s ongoing commitment to supporting migrant staff through the Federal Government’s Labour Agreement programme. In just the past 18 months, over 90 team members have been sponsored, enabling them to create secure and lasting futures in Australia while continuing to provide exceptional care to residents across all Scalabrini communities.
The celebration not only honoured these individuals but highlighted the organisation’s deep roots in supporting migrants—echoing the mission of the Scalabrini Congregation founder, John Baptist Scalabrini, who established the order over 140 years ago to serve migrants with compassion and dignity.
A Transformative Commitment
Scalabrini has committed $750,000 to its sponsorship programme for the 2024/25 financial year, reinforcing its belief that staff wellbeing is at the heart of quality aged care. This commitment has significantly contributed to Scalabrini’s remarkable 9% staff turnover rate—far below the industry average of 35%. Such outcomes are testament to the organisation’s thriving workplace culture, earning it the Best Workplace Award two years in a row, alongside the Change Champion Award—both accolades awarded through Macquarie University’s Voice Project.
A Celebration of Belonging
More than 70 staff, along with family, friends, CEO Richard de Haast and members of the Scalabrini Board, gathered to celebrate with joy, gratitude, and pride. Each staff member received a Belong diary to begin journaling their new chapter as Australian citizens.
