Volunteering at Scalabrini

VolunteeringAt Scalabrini

At Scalabrini, we believe that it’s important to offer volunteer opportunities at all of our village locations.

Volunteering in aged care not only benefits the residents, but also holds many benefits for the volunteers themselves.

For residents, having a volunteer team means their social circle is expanded and there are more hands on deck to organise additional events and activities including but not limited to art, gardening, music, reading, fundraising and other social & cultural events.

Building connections with residents creates intergenerational relationships which has benefits for both the older and younger individual, where each person can learn new things from the other.

Volunteer work, especially when in close proximity to those in aged care, gives individuals the opportunity to see past the stereotypes of age, disability or diagnosis and gain a holistic understanding of what life looks like in someone else’s shoes. It demystifies what both aging and aged care really is which in turn creates a new personal perspective.

Volunteering also has other benefits, including an increase in personal wellbeing due to feelings of fulfilment and opportunities to learn new skills and grow your career.

Typically, volunteer roles and tasks are assigned based on your availability, strengths and interest. When you become part of the Scalabrini team, we provide you with a volunteer induction plan, relevant training and onboarding as well as regular ongoing support from our staff.

As a not-for-profit (or for-purpose) aged care organisation, Scalabrini puts resident needs first. We aren’t driven by profit maximisation and we aren’t guided by cost-cutting or revenue. Instead, we continuously invest back into our villages, to maintain our position as the aged care choice for migrant communities across New South Wales.
