There are few milestones as extraordinary as a century, and on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, our community at The Village by Scalabrini Drummoyne came together to honour one of our most cherished residents, James Paterson, as he marked his 100th birthday. What began as a typical morning transformed into an unforgettable celebration filled with warmth, laughter, and the deep bonds of family and community.
A Celebration to Remember
To mark a magnificent century on this planet, James enjoyed a special morning tea fit for a king in the heart of our village piazza, surrounded by family, friends and fellow close residents. By his side were his loving wife of 75 years, 102-year-old Mary, and their daughters Elizabeth, Diane and Mary-Bernadette, along with grandchildren Augustus and Madeleine. It was a true multigenerational affair, reflecting the vibrant, supportive atmosphere James now calls home. Moreover, it was more special as James celebrates this birthday with his daughter, Bernadette’s special birthday too.
The Cake Cutting Moment
The highlight of the event came when James, with a helping hand from his daughter Elizabeth, made the first slice into his spectacular birthday cake. As everyone joined in singing “Happy Birthday,” the room buzzed with joy and admiration for a man who has witnessed and contributed to a century of history.
Our family is deeply grateful for the care, kindness, and respect our father receives from the Scalabrini staff,
explains his daughter, Diane. This gratitude was clear as three generations of Patersons joined in the celebrations.
